2000 Mountaineer
I have recently bought a 2000 mountaineer, I am 25 years old and love having this SUV. I have had some problems with it running rough and also the door adjar chimes all the time. I was wondering what you all thought could be quick fixes possible. Also Id like to put a small lift on it, I am a country boy and also do a lot of dunning in the summer up at Silver Lake let me know what y'all think. Thanks for your time.

door ajar chimes? as in the interior lights are on because a door is "open"? id check the door sensors they are located inside the door clap thing. i had one go bad on my 98 lincoln and it made the car think the door was open. also is it a v8 or v6 and does it have AWD?

It could also be the key cylinder not grounding out the wire clip attached to it to activate the door ajar chime if the hey is on... If you take off the steering column trim (screws from under the steering column) you can try unhooking the clip and see if it stops. I took mine off several older vehicles so I didn't have to deal with the annoying chime when listening to the radio with the door open. It just looks like a "c" that clips to the lock cylinder.

I have a v6 and its AWD, it only runs rough when it first is started up i was told to clean the IAC so is that what i gotta try?

Since you have a V6 you do not have AWD. Only V8 equiped Mountaineers & Explorers have AWD. What you have is control-trac.

Crooksie- consider yourself lucky to live by LKQ in Dorr... That would save me a LOT of gas money. :)

Okay all, I have another question the timing chain clatters first thing in the morning but after a couple mins it goes away so I was wondering if i used a thicker oil if it help prevent doing the front and rear timing chain a little longer, prolong the life? let me know!

thicker oil?

Assuming you have the SOHC V6 and not the OHV, I don't recommend thicker oil. The timing chains rattle because the spring pressure in the tensioners is insufficient to keep the chains taught. When oil pressure builds up the hydraulic piston in the tensioner increases tension on the chain. Thicker oil means a longer time for the oil to reach the tensioners. I suggest that you run full synthetic 5W30 oil.

If the rattle is loud and sounds like marbles rattling around in the engine then you may have a broken cassette guide assembly. Timing chain rattle resolution process - SOHC V6
