Hello Old Members,
I'm a new member because I bet I can fix this 2001 Explorer Sport problem without taking it to a garage. Thanks for letting me join your wonderful fourm. The four wheel drive will not engage and its snowing here in NM.
The Sport has some strange, minor, automatic shifting problems but all of a sudden the electric switch went out to shift it into 4 wheel drive on the dash, and the normal 4 wheel ignition warning light that is supposed to appear when you turn on the key, will not light up. This all happened, I believe, at the same time, when traveling up a hill and the transmission would not shift automatically to a higher gear. I checked all of the fuses, but it sounds electrical to me. Is there a relay or switch in the black fuse box under the hood that could have gone out? I would appreciate any feedback.
