Hello everyone, name is Jim. I just got me a 1997 Ford Explorer XLT last week and was looking around on the forums for some general info on it. So I stumbled upon this site and im sure I can find most of what I need.
Later on, I'll put pictures up of the explorer. Its actually in GREAT condition for being a '97. Roughly 114K miles but interior and exterior are still pretty damned good.
I have not searched yet but I have a few things I know I need. LED light for the speedometer. Not only for style, but it seems one light is out and I can hardly see 0-40mph!
Another issue, which I have a guarentee to fix, is the 4wd is auto engaging where it shouldn't. First day I brought it home ran perfect. Next day if I turned or slowed down, it would jolt and sqeek the tires a little. I am going to get new tires also, could be the prob. Had one mechanic look at it and drive it and said he couldn't see the problem since it had stopped at that time (and since hasn't done it again).
And lastly the stereo system needs an upgrade. Its not bad, its a 6 disc changer and such but I want to put a cheap cd/mp3 deck with a small amp, new speakers, and a small sub or some sort. Oh, and really lastly
is cosmetic upgrades. I want to find small parts here and there to make it look nicer.
