Hello, guys!
I am from Brazil. I own a 2005 Explorer 4.0L 4x4 Limited. It has 90k miles on the odometer.
It is pretty hard to maintain it in my country, since most parts I need to import from USA, even so I love this old truck. Since it is getting close to 100k, more serious maintenance needs to be done in the next few months.
I have been reading almost daily topics on this forum for more than two years, but just now I am taking the time to create an account.
Hope I can learn more and get even more experience from you all.
The best,
Diego 🇧🇷 🇺🇸

Welcome to the forums! Sounds like a nice lil' rig ya got there, especially with only 90k on it! You'll definitely find plenty of info on here and can always ask for more or links to some too. Wish ya luck on it!

Thank you, DemonMudder!

@diegoexplorer Seems like a nice rig, those 3rd-gens require a bit of looking after the transmissions, but otherwise are a solid platform. 90k on a '05, that's extremely low mileage compared with the average in the US. There's loads of information on this forum, from the obvious to the obscure, and the users are very active (as you probably already know).

Hope she treats you well in the years to come! Let us see some pics when you have time!

I have only two pics with me now. I took those on our last trip to Paraguay two months ago. She is dirty in the first one because we crossed some dusty roads there. I am planning to buy new tires soon, so I will take new pictures and post them here.

Regarding the tranny, it is shifting decently so far. It did two oil changes before, and I am planning to do other in the next few months including a new filter. However, I am not sure if the oil changes per se will extend the transmission life that much. I hope it lasts other 90K 🙏; it would be expensive to import a new/remanufactured one to Brazil.

Welcome Diego. Nice looking Explorer. If I read your post right you have done oil changes but not a trans service correct? oil changes have nothing to do with extending the trans life, you would need to drop the trans pan replace the fluid & filter in the trans. If I misread your post I apologize, I am old & sometimes not very sharp. Since you are getting close to 100K check the front lower ball joints for looseness, I know on our 99 Explorer Sport they went bad around 100K.

Hello, Mike! Thank you for your attention.
You are right; I was not clear. The fluid and filter were replaced with 45K and 65K miles.
Regarding ball joints, I started replacing some parts of the front end three months ago. I already did the front upper arm bushing, outer ties, sway bars bushing and links.
Recently I ordered two new Mevotech TTX upper ball joints from Rockauto, and I found the Motorcraft lower ones in my country. So, I am moving slowly, because it requires some logistics to find all the parts here.
I hope to finish the front end services and tires this month, and then move to the rear parts.
Tthe car has only two problems right know: 1) the transfer case motor died, so I can't activate the 4x4 low now 2) and the running board, on the passenger side, has a small crack in the plastic.
Thank you all and nice weekend.
