2017 Ford Explorer XLT
Good evening! I have a 2017 explorer XLT and I’ve been having an ongoing noise that is seeming to be more common. It’s a high pitched whistle-like noise that happens randomly. I’ve noticed that it only happened today when my AC was on. It’s not a normal whistle sound. I’m not sure how to describe it. It can be very loud at times. Curious if anyone has any ideas.

Welcome to the Forum.
Does it appear to come from the back HVAC unit? There is a thread on a "siren" type noise coming from the back.

I can’t tell where exactly it is coming from. For the most part it comes from somewhere in the engine from what I can tell.

If it only happens when the A/C is ON and appears to be coming from the engine bay then it could have to do with the A/C compressor. It would be difficult to isolate the source if it just happened the one time. If it happens when the vehicle is idling, you can open the hood and see if you can determine the source.

It’s happened quite a good bit, and it’s getting more and more often. Sometimes it’s so loud it startles me and other times it’s quiet. It’s completely random besides only happening when the air is on. Its not constant. It can go days without doing it and then it can be almost continuous on other days.
