Hello everyone, I'm not exactly new to the site I was actually troubleshooting my 96 4.0 V6 w/ 160K miles for emmissions here in VA and I found this site very helpful. I have been looking thru for the past week and finally decided to join in the fray. So here I am. I'm new to Ford and Obd2, I can tell you about pre obd2 hondas and acuras if you need it, but in domestic, I am a newb.

I had a MIL/CEL p1151, Bank 2 Sensor 1, lack of switching, researched, replaced the pass side o2, but still had the code. Then I did a bit more digging, and found that Bank 2 is on the Driver's side, D'oh!. I disconnected the DR side sensor, hooked the scantool, still zero's on that O2 sensor (while engine is running), so I dig for the old sensor, replaced the dead one and what do you know, now it's switching fine, and similar to bank 1, the truck has 165K. My IM readiness is showing all good except for the Heated O2 sensors, Catalyst, and Oxygen sensors.... I have gone thru the drive cycle procedure, I have put close to 200miles, and still IM incomplete on the three. My O2 sensors are switching fine (.2~.8) but the downstream is reading .4~.8, is this indicative of a dead CAT? I think here in VA 3-non ready IM's is testable, 4 is an automatic failure.

Oh yah, almost forgot, I'm getting 250 - 300 miles per tank on a 4,0 V6 is this normal?... I was getting that many miles on a honda with a 9 gal tank LoL, but I do like the ride on the truck a whole lot better than the ricerocket so it is worth it.

welcome

Welcome to Explorer Forum!
Thats normal gas milage.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

And I was afraid of the gas mileage. Lately, for 2 days now, when I start her up in the morning when it's really cold, she's idling funny and some white smoke comes out the tail pipe. I have to warm her up 2-3 mins before I drive out coz she feels as if she's going to stall out on me after a while though the smoke stops. Now I'd normally think nothing of this and write it off as condensation, but after sitting parked for a few hrs, I start it and smoke is there again, idle is fine, 2-3 mins the smoke dissappears. Now white smoke almost always mean coolant, and always means expensive. Right now though, the coolant level seems to be ok, I'm not loosing any. The oil in the dipstick is just oil, no milkshake or sweatbeads, the oil cap shows the same. I'm barely a week into owning my first domestic car and I'm already feeling the "love" :(, I've been digging around, but I haven't found a thread similar to mine, most threads were clear cut with coolant loss, and the smell, mine just smells a bit like it's running rich. I even found a thread about the HCV going bad, I'm just picking the experts brains, any tips and tricks on where to start the troubleshooting? I've done the basics, radiator is good all hoses check out, heater hoses are ok etc.

Sorry for the novel writing, but I hate leaving anything out, and I try and get as much info out as I can.:salute:
