- 1999 Explorer Sport
I just thought I'd say hello to the group. I just purchased a 1999 Explorer Sport 2WD 4.0 OHV manual transmission with a little over 150K miles on it today. It has a couple of issues, an ABS light and a check engine light which will be diagnosed tomorrow. I am also looking for a stock gearshift knob. I have owned a 1988 Bronco II 4WD since 2000 and it is time to say goodbye to an old friend. It has 263K on it and is suffering from the dreaded starter issue and all the characteristic body rust. I put 4 starters in it in the second round of this problem which recurred about two years after the first time (new ring gear cured it the first time) and my professional mechanic can't figure it out. If anyone wants BII parts let me know. The stock 2.9 in it was rebuilt at 182K and runs well but is starting to weep at the casting plugs on the left side. The rebuilt transfer case has about 15K on it, seats aren't in bad shape. I think the gear shift knob is the same but the BI's lost its leather a long time ago. I look forward to being a member of the group.
