My 2002 XLT has a new sound after I put the new tires on, never noticed it before. When I am driving about 45 or up and let off the accelerator there is noise and vibration almost sounds like the tansfer case is slipping but when I press the accelerator it stops. I have full time 4 wheel drive and I can't determine if it is the transfer case or the rear end. I replaced both the rear end and the transfer case about 14,000 miles ago so its hard to believe they are bad already. I tried switching it into 4 wheel drive high and it doesn't make the noise anymore. I took it to the Ford dealer and they were baffled and could not find any reason for the noise, however they will start tearing it apart if I want them too, that's to expensive for them to go fishing so I have turned to someone here. Does anyone know what this noise might be?:cool::us:

How many tires did you have put on? Just went through the same thing. If all four tires are not the same size the 4wheel all wheel drive cannot compensate for the difference.
