1997 Explorer V8. AWD. Car runs down the road great. But when I come to a stop and while turning left it has a hic-up. It is like the transmission slips for a second or fuel has the hic-up. Not sure which it is but it only does it turning left and going from a dead stop. I also notice the car has a slightly low idle while in gear.

On a side note I hit a boulder on the mountain today and tore a hole in the side wall of the front tire. I did hit 75 later today but I think I will put that tire on the rear just in case. Tire doesn't leak air.

Any help with the hic-up?

Is it a hiccup or is the steering binding when turning.

Wait what, tore a hole in the sidewall of the tire, but it doesn't leak air? You are gonna have to explain that one to me, I'm having a real hard time picturing that... I hope you don't mean that you did a sidewall patch, because that is dangerous and the tire WILL fail again soon.

As for your hiccup... Could you go into greater detail with that? Are your RPMs dropping and not wanting to climb for a second? Does it feel like it is struggling to move as if it were climbing over something? Do the RPMs climb normally, but for a moment, little or nothing goes to your wheels. Or is the steering binding like jremington asked?

First the tire thing. It has a chunk of the tire about a thumb nail size piece flap that you can pull back and see white and wires from. It never leaked air.

As for the hic-up it acts like it dies for a split second and then comes back to life. No power at all. It has only done this 3 times so far. It happens so fast I don't have time to look at the tac and see if it drops or not.

The tire problem. Really not so much a problem, sounds like the rock tore the outer rubber from the belt. Even tbough it is not leaking now, it could have damaged the belts, and could start leaking in the future. This happens all the time in rocky country.
The hiccup, only happens when turning left? Look for a loose wire to the ignition. Would have no idea where, but bet there is a loose wire someplace.

I will look for a loose wire. As for the Tire,I am going to see if I can get some credit on it and if not just buy a new one. The one I tore is in really good shape so I think I can buy a new one and just have it shaved down a little.
