I have replaced the rear wiper with a brand new one on my 1999 Explorer it work when I first put it in but I noticed when the rear hatch was open it did not work when I closed it the rear wiper motor worked ok, but today it was not working so I thought their maybe a switch on the rear hatch that maybe faulty can someone tell where this switch is if their is one.:scratch::scratch:

there is a switch on the rear window latch. the wiper will not function with the window open. it could be the switch, or a defective motor. i replaced the one on my 2000 Mountaineer with a reman from AutoZone. it lasted about 3 months. it was under lifetime warranty, so i replaced it again and so far so good.

Thanks I'll check the switch out as I only replace the wiper motor with a brand new one yesterday.

BTW, if you need a window switch, i have one (used - tested good) that i pulled for another forum member who didn't need it. PM me if you want it. i also have the wiper switch (2 of them actually).

i wouldnt be too concerned ,the rear wiper is crap anyway .if my motor ever goes i wouldnt bother replacing it .
the wiper doesnt clear but a portion of the window anyway, mine was always hit or miss if it wanted to work .just turn it off and back on at the control ,it will eventually kick in .

can't argue with you there. worst rear wiper design ever.
