Hey all, now before I even say anything here, I know how some of you guys like to criticize people who lower their explorers. And please keep in mind, "to each their own" I am 99% of the time a street driver, who loves the explorer this is my second one. I have a '99 explorer sport. I am looking for nice shocks to improve my handling. My truck is lowered about 2 inches front and back. It is a 4X4, I know most of you think of this as a sin, but I like having the added confidence of the 4X4. I would appreciate any help. THanks alot everyone.

As much as I hate to help you out on this one :-), you should get the Edelbrocks IAS. The handling is really great, you will be "shocked" with the difference. They make shocks for lowered Explorers. $85 ea at most places, but www.carpartsonsales.com has them for $57.11. I have the standard length ones, but I'm sure the improvements show on the short ones too!

Good luck.

The gentlemen's correct! you won't find a better price than $57.11, I have been pricing them out lately, and I can save you the effort; the above supplier only charges $5.00 for shipping on top of the $228 for the shocks.

jornum1,
i do almost all city driving except a occasional gravel road and i just put monroe sensi-trac shocks on. they were a real upgrade from the cheapies i was running. they only ran $36.81 per shock. if you are not looking to spend the money for edlebrocks, then you might want to consider the sensi-tracs which are self adjusting as well since your xplorer only sees highway driving.
i considered edlebrocks, but just couldn't justify the cost since i don't go off-roading. i run a slightly bigger tire(30x9.50) and a steering stabilizer. this combo mkes for a very fine ride and tight front end for my '91 with 143,000 miles of wear and tear! just a thought.

Bill
I called several different auto parts stores for prices. I was quoted anywhere from $49, $47, $42 until i finally found one for $36. I had just had them put on a full size bronco about 2-3 years ago and they were $36 then. So i knew $36 was probably as cheap as i would find them. Problem is, i bought them at a local parts store called Fisher Auto Parts. They are associated with Federated parts or something.I don't know if Federated is a nationwide thing or not. Also, look up Monroe Sensi-trac Shocks on the web. I have seen them for $36 there as well.

that might be federal instead of federated, not sure. This is in Missouri by the way.

I don't know if this helps or not.

How did you get the shocks for $34.20 each. I checked and found them to $68.61 each. Let me know how to get that great price you got.

Well, I finally got around to putting on my Edlwbrocks, and I must say, they are great. There was a considerable differance in ride. I do have one question. The instructions state that if your model has the "fifth"shock, you know that small shock that goes from the frame to the diff. You are supposed to take it off.Did anyone take it off? I left mine on. Does it matter?

I left mine on. The guys at Explorer Express said you can go either way, but since it's supposed to control unwanted axle movement, I decided to leave it.

Jornum, as you know, we're in the same boat as far as handling goes. I love my Bilstein shocks. They made it handle much better. My explorer is lowered 2" also and I have 255/45VR18's on 18x8.5 wheels. I think that the Bilsteins cost a little more, and I don't know anything about the Edelbrocks, but I like mine.
