We have a 2001 EB awd and need new shocks. Any recommendations for good quality ones that give smooth ride and decent handling?

I bought Monroe Sensatracs for my Explorer, they help a lot to keep it level with me, and the gas tank full, and have increased my stability quite a bit, they are a little bit stiff, but I was used to the stock ones, which where very warn out. SO they are actually pretty good on both sides of the spectrum.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've used Monroes on a previous Explorer with good results and would rate them my first choice.

Monroe's ride ok, a little soft which makes the truck sway a little more then usual in turns. You'd be better off with a monotube like the KYB-GR2. They will give you more control, dampen the bumps better and control sway better as well.

I've run both, Monroe's are on my truck now and they will be replaced with another set of KYB's this spring.

i'm very happy with KYB's on my '01 EB. will be putting them on my '00 Mountaineer in the spring.

I had Sensatracs on my 2001 EB and I replace them after 2 weeks. Waste of money, truck was feeling too wobbly, leaning too much in curves, diving too much when braking...

Switched to KYB Gas-A-Just - monotubes, way better handling. And no, KYB GR2 are NOT monotubes.
BTW, you have to replace the fifth shock too (rear axle) - there I used a Monroe one.

I put Monroe Sensatrac's on mine over two years ago and am very happy with them. Don't forget the "fifth shock" between the rear axle and frame on pass side (Monroe SC2958).
