Ok yesterday i replaced my 1 4ohm 12" punch XLC in a bandpass box with 2 8 ohm punch XLC's in a sealed box and the difference is night and day. ANd boy was i wrong about my little sony amp not being enough power. Now my bass really goes boom. And if by chance anyone wants a 12"bandpass box or a XLC subwoofer just let me know and ill make ya a real good deal.

let me take a guess..........

your bandpass box is an off the shelf, generic bandpass box???

a properly tuned, custom built bandpass for a specific woofer should have a huge efficiency gain. yoiur one 12 should have been had much more SPL than 2 12s in a sealed enclosure with the same power.

i don't mean to be insulting, but those prebuilt "put your woofers into it" bandpass boxes are the worst piece of car audio marketing to come down the road. they look great, but they rarely work well.

I glad your happy with your new setup though.

yeah i kinda got screwed into the deal with that bandpass box, i had the system on layaway (college student) so i go to get it installed and how convenient that they are out of sealed boxes, so itwas either i get that box for 30 more bucks or wait 3 more weeks to get it installed. and as for the spl, there was no comparison, i used to turn my HU up to about 11 with my low at +6 before it got too loud, now at HU 8 and low +4 my ears start to tingle.

bandpass should have a lot better bass response. but fosgate subs arent that great, so that coulda been part of the reason.

Bandpass sub enclosures will only sound right if they are properly tuned to that particular sub's parameters. I'm not sure why people bother with bandpass anyway. The only retailer that I know of that could match your component subs properly in a bandpass box is Crutchfield. The twelve in a sealed enclosure may not be that much louder than the eights but it will be much deeper.
I myself am not very impressed with anything from RF-Their subs are descent but their amps suck. They are extremely overpriced for what they are. For the same money, you could get a USAmp that might be rated at less wattage but actually putting out more. And the USAmp will have an unconditional lifetime warranty.

Well I guess I got a little off subject.

---Put the twelve in a sealed box and put those eights in your front doors--
