Hi my name is Scott Lindner. I own a 1993 4wd explorer XLT. I want to get a six inch superlift, and I was told to fit 33 inch tires I would need to get a new swaybar. I was wonder if anyone has put new swaybars on their explorer. Do you really need them? I was wondering what companies offer them, and what company is the best? Also what are the prices like for them and where are they found? If anyone knows, I would appriciate the info. Thanks!!

I think that most people on the board ditch their sway bars when they lift it. If the sway is too much after you take them off, you could always double the shocks and that could take the sway out and when you take out the sway bar you get better flex.

Hi Scott,
I think that with that superlift kit, the whole sway bar gets dropped down rather than extending the end links. This may cause rubbing on the sway bar in tight turns. ( I have this problem with mine). I don't see any reason you can't use the stock sway bar with 33's other than that.

You can always disconnect it for extra articulation off road.

I disagree with the statement that people disconnect their front swaybar. Unless you have really rigid, tight shocks even at slow speeds the lack of a front sway bar will cause the vehicle to sway quite severely. I have quick disconnects so that I can disconnect them off-road for greater flex, but if I try to drive without them, even with my RS-9000's set to 4 or 5, the vehicle will sway back and forth. It is the stock swaybar. I also have the superlift rear sway bars that I will occasionally disconnect when going off-road. I think the only person I know of (and yes I'm aware I'll be corrected many times) that permanently removed their sway bar was Maniak, the superlift has sway bar drop down brackets that most people use.

No, rock883, most don't ditch them.

I thought I was the only one that permanently disconnected my swaybars; didn't know that Maniak did too. Matt, I don't think you'll be corrected too much because I think Maniak and I must be all of it. Bottom line is that most don't do it. I would bet that me and Maniak are about all there is.

I love the way mine rides now, but I am also aware that the "safety police" would probably lock away the key on me, even though what I do is no different than what our previous generations rode over for decades. Go figure.

I thought I was the only one. If anyone else (including Maniak) has also PERMANENTLY disconnected them, I'd like to know, along with their trail reports to trade stories with.

Thanks,
