i currently have an old crappy cd-5000x sony head unit and some really nice boston speakers. this is what im thinking:
alpine 9835
1 - jl 12w3v2-d4 in a custom ported box
1 - jl 250/1 to push the amp

is it worth not having a warrenty to get the stuff cheaper on ebay, or should i just plop the cash down at tweeter. also if anyone has any of this stuff how do you like it? thanks for your input :)

I have and highly recommend the 9835. Here are some reviews, one of which I wrote...

It is always a hard decision to buy retail or from eBay. Over the years, I have purchased four head units from eBay at significant savings. Since eBay sellers are not authorized dealers, you do forfeit the factory warranty, but I haven't had ANY problems with any of my head units. I would imagine that buying any quality amp on eBay would be a safe bet since amps have an even smaller likelihood of "breaking." Most eBay retailers have their own warranty, but it is not going to be as flexible as a factory one.

If you decide on eBay, I recommend "audio-n-video." I got my 9835 from them for $405 delivered with no tax. Retail would be $550 + tax.

i got my whole setup (phoenix gold subs and brutus amp) from ebay. what i would recommend is buy from either of these places

discountsjungle.com
cbrstereo.com
ikesound.com

or

ebay

also alot of times these places will pricematch off of ebay... so just email them and ask, cant hurt

now many of these are not authorized dealers yet they offer there own warranty which in my experience is the same thing

also that stuff is some good stuff, price is pretty high but its quality stuff. jl amps are known to be power hungry and those subs really thump. there are better deals out there but similar bumpin

I'd go eBay. Most sellers have some kind of warranty and if it's DOA you'll get a replacement. I also recommend the CDA-9835, best HU I've owned.

if i get the 9835 should i get a speaker amp as well or does it have enought power to push my speakers well

speaker amps are always a good choice

JL's are good amps the only problem I have with them is their price. You pay a lot of money for them. I have a JL 500.1 that I used to run a couple of subs with. Well I needed more power for the subs I was running and I was looking into getting another 500.1 .. Well the price for me to get another 500.1 was more than it cost me to get a Kicker 1200.1 and a 600.4. In adding the second am I only had to kick in a additional 50-100..

Of course JL is still made in US, along with a few other companies. I know kicker moved overseas a few years ago but for $350 I got a 1400watt amp..

see im not looking for something thats gonna blow my ears out i just want some nice bass to go along with some hot vocals

Running external amps will give you the best sound quality and dynamics. However, the V-Drive amp built into the 9835 puts out a relatively good amount of power (26W/ch). This rating is CEA-2006 compliant so its "real." If you always listen to your music at low to moderate sound levels, then this amount of power should be sufficient. With the 9835, it is recommended to hook the power wire directly to the battery with 10-12g wire to get the most out of the internal amp.

Careful how you use the word hot, Paris Hilton has it trademarked :D

Then I wouldn't recommend JL.. You can buy something comparable and save money.. For something to just increase the sound I would recommend either Alpine, MTX, Rockford.. Somethign with a good name, not a cheap one like Pyramid, Rockwood, etc...
