After having a shop replace my transfer case, my cruise control will not work. I have not taken a look yet but I am assuming that there is a VSS or something that may not be connected. Can you guys think of anything that I should look at first? My cruise control worked fine before. The shop is 1000 miles away, so taking it back there is a little out of the question.

Thank you,

Any help would be appreciated,

Joe

The VSS is located on the transfer case, so the first thing I would check is to make sure that the electrical connector is plugged into the VSS.

BTW, not related to the transfer case, but my cruise control stopped working a couple of years ago when the SCDS failed on the master cylinder. That is the infamous switch that was recalled on several Ford models (including the Explorer, but not for 97) because it leaks brake fluid and sometimes spontaneously catches on fire.

I appreciate it. I am going to check these out today. I am to bet that the VSS isn't plugged in, I am not getting the symptoms that is explained in the other post about the SCDS. Mine simply wont turn on...no light. I will let you know what I find.

If you have no VSS, you should experience some other problems too such as transmission shifting, speedometer, etc.

When my SCDS failed, the light would come on for a fraction of a second when you tried to engage CC and then the light would go back out. It would be easy to miss the light unless you were staring right at it.

I agree with Cobraguy that if the VSS is disconnected, you should get some other symptoms as well.

Well problem solved! The connector for the SCDS wasn't connected....

Thanks Guys!
