Well this is all fantastic information
Seems so many options. I'm quite indecisive by nature so I'm banging my head on the wall lol.

Have just recently been searching for tires too. Copper Discoverer A/T3 were recommended by quite a few people to talked to. We have purchased these but have not had them put on yet. 1 guy said he has not had to use 4wd to go up hist driveway since getting these.

Local maw & paw tire place said Cooper sells their name to other tire makers. You really need to make sure you are purchasing a Cooper made tire if buying Copper tires. Best thing to do is look at Cooper's website:http://us.coopertire.com/

im back with the same indecisive issues as before lol. everyone is giving great information and feedback. I have been looking around and asking. I was over at the local walmart picking up items and i took a shot at asking a tech working in gheir automotive department. He tells me the goodyear wrangler trailmark tires are amazing with a great price point @ 119 each. i tried to find reviews on these tires all over and cant seem to find anything all that reliable...is my search relevant to the quality of the tires? garbage? so far it seems the most mentioned are the firestone destination le2 and the general grabbers. arg my head is hurting :(

IMHO, any new tires are good tires. They will be better that your old worn out ones. "Which tires are better" is like beating a dead horse or asking "which oil is the best". Everyone has a different opinion. Just get what your budget will allow.....you will be "happy, happy, happy!!!!:D

I have these bad boys on my old Chev and when the time comes they are going on my 05 Explorer, they are 265 70 16 I hope they fit, its got 245's on it now.

They should fit no problem on your 2005 Explorer.

LOL and what I am saying is which tire will get you through the snow better? The $500 cheapies or the $800 mud & snows? You get what you pay for in life and some things (like tires) its worth saving a little extra for.

From my personal experience, Firestones are garbage. I had a set on a Trans Am I had and brand new those things couldn't get traction in a light mist let alone a decent amount of rain.

The last tires I bought for my Explorer were Michelins. Don't remember the exact model, but I've had them for about 5 years now, 80,000 or so miles, still have plenty of tread left, and I have never had any problems with them. Expensive, but worth it.

Although I have noticed more wear since I moved to PA where they don't believe in straight roads, or paving and fixing potholes.

I'm pa driver and I know all about the potholes. There are more potholes then even flat roads.

Ok so in the time I've had my x (and my moms had her pilot which has the same tire size 245 65 r 17) I have done quite a bit of driving on a bunch of different tires.

Michelin latitude touring ( on the pilot and x)

- pros

-Absolutely no road noise whatsoever these have been the quietest tires I've rode on in my truck the only thing you hear is drive line noise and the wonderful rear end in our trucks
-These tires were excellent in the rain and the hard packed snow they were a very "grippy" tire and they wore nicely I got a decent amount of miles out of them.
-On rainy days 4x4 auto would stay quiet even though I have a heavy foot especially at stoplights.
-They were great when hitting standing water on the highway no hydroplaning and tracked straight no wheel pulling to one side.

-con's

-They were reaching the end of their life in the winter and I ended up changing them a little earlier because I felt they were no longer safe even though there was some tread left
-They are not an "aggressive" looking tire they're just a car tire upsized and slapped on an SUV.
-In fresh powdery snow they struggled until they packed up with snow which sometimes was quick and sometimes took a little while.

Nitto Terra grappler (on the x)

-pros

-Low road noise the only time I hear them is on a freshly paved stretch of highway with the radio and the HVAC off and it doesnt get louder than drive line noise.
-Aggressive looking tire
-They're a good tire in fresh powder as well as the slushy snow
-Less expensive than my michelins
-Have a thicker sidewall and a heavy tread ( overall theyre a heavier tire)
-They're good on dirt and soft as well as hard sand I don't have to air down as much as I did for soft sand as I had to with the Michelin's.

-con's

-On the packed icy snow they don't stick as well as my Michelin's did I have to remind myself that every noe and then.
-In the rain they're not as good as my Michelin's were either they tend to set off the auto 4 if I really have my foot in it
-They're not the best tire for the ice either they really like to spin sometimes but I have yet to feel unsafe or uncomfortable driving on ice with them

Michelin cross terrain(on the honda pilot)

-pros

-low road noise they're not as quiet as my latitudes but they're quieter than my Terra grapplers
-they look like an SUV tire they're not really aggressive but not really mild either although they won't give you an offroading look
-they're pretty good in the snow
-not as good as my terragrapplers on the powdery stuff or the slushy stuff but much better than my latitudes were
-they're a durable tire my mom rubs them on the curbs plenty and they show minimal sidewall rash

-con's
-on the more expensive side these were the most expensive out of the three if I remember correctly even though we got them at Costco
-they were spotty on the snow sometimes losing grip at odd times then miraculously finding it again(no I wasn't on ice I've checked)
-they have a stiffer sidewall than the latitudes therefore have a little stiffer ride

My final say?
I was not unhappy or disappointed with any of the tires that I have used some had their strengths and others their weaknesses the current setup now is the pilot has the cross terrains and the x has the terragrapplers and I don't think that is going to change I like the more aggressive tread and the advantages of the terragrapplers and my mom likes the advantages of the cross terrain. You really can't go wrong with any of them. Good luck choosing on a tire :salute:
