Hi all.

Finally got off my backside to register on this site. My friend is on here all the time and tells me there is great info on this board., which there is.

Okay here is my first ? for all of you. I am removing my airbox on my 96 4.0 . The auto stores around here does not have the K&N filter for the explorer. So I had to order it, it will be in 4 days or so.
Until I get that Can I run a Fram air filter open? And just use the clamp to hold it on till I get the custom plat made for the k&N?
I know it allows water in, but I wont be doing any 4x4 so will this be okay , or should I just wait the days till I get the k&N?

I don't think you'd harm it to much, as long as the filter stays on, and you stay out of the water. I'd like to know why you went with the K&N, when you can get the KKM much cheaper though (for the whole kit). But thats just my opinion on the fram filter, I don't see why it wouldn't work, but someone here might know better.

Either way, welcome to the board.

That's what I did on mine. I cut up the airbox and ran the 'regular' filter until my K&N came in....2 days..no prob.
when you put your K&N in, take the Neg cable off the battery to reset rather than wait a while for the PCM to 'relearn' the mix...since you are allowing somewhat more air in.
