the engine light is on, so something is wrong with it, you'll need your codes read to find out what.

As for the 4x4 it might just be a light.. could be more serious..

Welcome to the gang

Si

thanks for the reply how do you read these codes and how to tell what they mean thanks peter

you need a code reader.. I don't have one but some members on here do. They come with a list of what the codes mean.

I know Howard's got one. I don't know which one he's got tho. But if you ask him I'm sure he'd let you know

to engage 4x4 low, you must first put the truck gear selector in "neutral" (not "drive") and then put it into 4x4 low. Then wait a couple seconds, and it should turn on the 4x4 low dash light. It cannot be engaged from drive as far as I know, if you are clicking from 2WD to 4HI to 4LO.

Welcome to the gang. 4x4 high and 4x4 low should not be used on the road only on slippery surfaces like gravel or mud or you will damage the drive shafts because you get windup. There is no central diff so when you go around a bend the front wheels turn more than the back. As for code reader I use a simple ODB11 reader, any garage should have one. Once you have the code then we can start the diagnosis as to what is causing it.

thanks for all the helpful replies its great to have all you for help.I have noticed that when car is in park the revs rise every 30sec or so not buy much about 100 rpm could this be in connection with engine light, also have a small blow on exhaust joint could this have an effect thank you all very much peter

The rev rise is probably caused by the air con kicking it. You should hear a click from the air com pump clutch at the same time. Cleaning the IAC may help. Check air con gas levels too.

hi howard thanks for the other reply that sounds great ,i will wait till i get the codes and will let you know, will the codes show if this needs doing.the noise is there once warm and at idle speed. What is the iac and where do i find it thank you peter

hi howard thanks will look at that in morning.I have managed to borrow a code reader and it came back with PO171 and PO174 hope you can help.Just to let you know that the exhaust has a blow on it where it joins new section thank you

Those codes mean.
P0171 System Adaptive fuel too lean (Bank 1)
P0174 System Adaptive fuel too lean (Bank 2)

Which basically means that you have an air leak up top. Chances are that the lower inlet manifold 'o' rings are hardened and not sealing when cold. An OOM12 kit will solve this for you. I happen to have one at the moment . :D

my lpg system makes my engine light come on and stay on for the exact same reason even after several resets it comes back as the fuel is to lean, but getting 45+mpg is more important to me than the light being off lol,as you dont mention lpg i would assume howard is right.

welcome to the forum by the way

Hi howard can you send me a contact number in private messages so i can arrange for the work to be done at your convience .Many thanks for all the input from all on the forum.:salute:ps cant stop driving about in the ex great fun:)
