New to forum, first time Explorer Owner...

My main interest in forums is the great help that all you people provide. Of my many toys I now have 2 4 wheelers and I visit an atv forum faithfully. An incident ocurred which put my beat up old ranger out of commission so I needed something to haul, or pull these toys of mine with. Thats where I came across a '93 Explorer 4x4 Eddie Bauer, seemed like a good deal at only $1500 bucks with of course 125k miles, but I'm giving it a try. The body is actually pretty decent, little rust around the rear fenders, but I'm gonna take care of that soon, to make it as good as new. Since I love to tear things apart and fix them, this is another good toy for me to mess with. Of my many things on my list to do, getting the 4x4 to work is a main one, other then the simple things like putting a new power lock actuator in. I've already changed the 4x4 switch with the same results as before, no lights, nothing. Since I being new to this forum if you guys could direct me to the best place to find troubleshooting advice on this issue, I would be thankful. I look forward to many hours of learning on this forum as well as giving advice if I can...lol

its either the rear control module or the shifter motor on the tcase..... welcome to the site......

Welcome to the site. WHat Jim said about the shift motor, and rear module. You may want to try a search for "cleaning shift motor". That's more than likely the problem. What kind of ATV's do you have?

Welcome to the site.. Did you hear any noises when trying to shift it into 4WD? You can try cleaning the shift motor, that is most of the times the culprit.. Also if you plan on doing any serious wheeling in your Explorer, I highly suggest you change out your auto hubs if you have them still on there to a set of manuals made by Superwinch or Warn.

Thanks for all the info so far. Already found a ton of good info on what the problem could be. I'll probably investigate it a little more this week now that I know alot more about what I'm dealing with. For you guys that have changed the auto hubs, how hard is this to do, and do you guys recommend places to buy these at an affordable price? To answer your question Mbrooks420 I have a 2003 Ozark 250 which originally I bought for me, and my gf liked it so much I had to buy my self a different bike which is a 2001 Yamaha Warrior. Both are very fun quads, and very addicting. Only been in the hobby for less then 1yr, so I'm kinda new to it, but its a great time. Thanks again for all the info!!

Wow...I found my first post here on the forum, almost 1yr ago. Well just a year later I've found myself enjoying my explorer so much that I traded it in for a newer one. Just bought a 2001 4dr XLS 4x4, much nicer then the old EB, and I will say even though it has just the SOHC V6, it like night and day and I really like the improvement. Just thought I'd bring my original post back and say that I'll be sticking around on this forum for awhile, thanks for all the continued help!!!

Congrats on your new purchase, you might want to update the info under your name to include the new ride
