Just picked up an 02 4x4 for a winter vehicle and things seemed ok until I went to charge my phone in the front 12v outlet- didn't work so I tried rear outlet and still nothing. Figured it was no big deal so I checked fuses under steering wheel (#24 I believe) and it was good- I even swapped it to make sure. Then I found that 7 and 9 from under the hood each control a "power point". I assume this is the 12v outlets- anyway to my surprise THEY WERE MISSING!!!

Some of the other fuse locations were empty but according to manual they are supposed to be. I can also see slight scrapes on the 7 and 9 metal guides where a fuse has been slid on (and off apparantly). Should I just throw on some new fuses and see what happens? I probably would have if they were the normal blade style I have laying around. Is this a dealer trick to mask another issue? This is an Eddie Bauer with all kinds of electrical gadgets so I assume it would need more fuses than less!

Thanks!

Yeah just replace fuses 7 and 9 under the hood and see how it goes. There are some fuse positions not used just like there are connectors that are only half full of wires. That's normal. Don't know why the fuses are missing, maybe the PO blew 'em and never got around to getting replacements.

Welcome! Now we'll wait to see why they were missing... please update when possible. Thanks! (I wonder what it is?) :)

Thats odd, When I bought 02 xlt, the rear power worked and the front did not. I checked in the drivers side fuse box and they were ok. checked under the hood and the rear fuse was there and the fuse for the front was missing. I replaced it and everything so far seems fine.

My guess is someone needed to fix something else and pulled the fuse to replace another more important one. Just a guess...:salute:

Same issue with me. My rear outlet works but not the front. Ill check for a missing fuse.

Update. Wouldn't you know it, my number 9 under the dash was burned out.

There's a post somewhere about power points shorting out or causing other problems...

Kids watched movies in the back with rear outlet, i had GPS in the front and everything seems fine after an hour and a half trip yesterday! Thanks again!
Guy must have just blown both outlets and pulled them to show Autozone guy but never replaced them when he saw they were $4 a pop!!

now if I could just track down that pesky oil dribble!

Ford had a good idea  to put them on seperate 20a circuits.

Oil dribble? What's up?
