2006 Explorer Limited 4x4
I just purchased a 2006 Explorer Limited in very good (if not excellent) condition. So it seems the 4x4 low not engaging is a problem with this vehicle and the rear window defroster will not come on.

Thanks to this site, it seems I can replace the control module behind the glove box for a couple hundred $$ to resolve the 4x4 low issue. Not a major deal.

I still haven't really attacked the rear defroster issue yet but not a real issue there either.

Sold my old 2001 F250 diesel for this and I got it for a few thousand below NADA and Kelly Blue Book so I fix a few minor issues like this.

Looking forward to the the information on this site.

Thanks
Mike

G'day Mike and welcome. Do you have to put your foot on the brake and be in neutral to select low range in a 2006?

@Sams01 - not yet, it's pretty plain and all stock

@lynchy - Thanks, that seemed to work. I had to press the brake pretty hard but it did show on the dash it went into 4x4 low. It's amazing to me that being in Park doesn't work.

Tackled the rear defroster on Saturday, it seems the passenger side tab broke free from the grid. It's hidden under some molding. No room to soldier since it's is encased in plastic. I found a Permatex adhesive product that is conductive and designed for this very thing. Will test it tonite since it says to wait 24 hours before apply current to it and I was busy yesterday.
