Hello all, new guy here. I have owned many Fords, but never an explorer. Currently looking for an explorer for my wife as an upgrade from her '09 Fusion for more room.
I looked at a 2006 Explorer Limited last night with 89k miles. Was in really good shape, but the only thing that had me concerned was this condition.
On the test drive, I was not able to turn the O/D on or off while driving down the road. It would work in Park, but not in Drive. The O/D on/off did function correctly when I shifted it in Park and then drove again, but it would not shift while the gearshift was in Drive. I have searched and haven't been able to find any similar symptoms anywhere online, does anyone have any ideas?
I doubt it is indicative of any large problems. My first gut reaction is an intermittent connection in the cable that is moving with the gear shifter, that connects while in part, but disconnects when moved to drive, but I don't know what it looks like under the console or if that even makes sense.
