1997 Mountaineer 5.0L
Hello from a brand new owner of a 1997 Mountaineer 5.0 RWD. This is my fourth ford, but first ford truck - I'm currently rolling in a 99 Countour and an 88 Landcruiser - which has to go if anyone knows anybody.....
:)

Got the truck from an estate sale, for a nice price. Very clean, body perfect (garage kept), and a mere 103k miles. The family claimed all the maintenance was done at the dealer - no paperwork though. :(
Anyhow, everything seems to run fine so far. Lots of bells and whistles, only thing I would have really loved would be a sunroof, but I guess I won't have to worry about leaks.

Seems to be making a lot of squeaks and such, but I haven't had a chance to really get into anything. Only things I can tell that it needs right off is a lower left ball joint; intermittent squealing from the engine (I'm afraid its a bearing, but lets just hope a new belt does the trick); check engine light code shows EVAP system leak; the front passenger window won't go up or down without some (sometimes serious) assistance; and the CD changer just cycles through all 6 but won't actually play any.

Stumbled on this forum and it looks like a fantastic resource. I'm very excited to be a member, and hope I'll be able to contribute at some point also.

If there is a squeaking/creaking coming from the tailgate area, chances are that the striker latch bushings are junk. You can get them at AutoZone, etc., but they will only fit the rear hatch striker. Quieted my truck up quite a bit... Other creaky interior spots are where the plastic interior door panels meet the metal, especially on the bottom (they like to tap), and also where the black console sections meet the trim-colored console bottom-half. I used the stick on green felt to quiet things up in those areas...

Sounds like you found a nice deal!

welcome aboard
