Hi guys,

I've only been a member since Feb '09, and I have no prior experience with ford trucks, so pls bear with me if I ask a dumb (aka newb) question.

I got a great deal on my truck, 99 explorer E B 4.0 with 200K on the ODO, only paid $1000.00 :D. Body and engine are great, but I have a tranny issue; occasional hard shifting and stalling at stops (Like a standard with the clutch engaged) Auto scanner shows codes P0715 and P0743. No leaks or other indications, not sure what to do next, and I don't want to get ripped off by someone recognizing my ignorance on this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Dave:us:

The best place to start...go to the transmission forum. There is more information there than you can imagine. Start with the stickies and see if you fine anything there. Then search that forum. Oh yea...find a post by Brooklynbay and go into his signature. There is a ton more information there in his links.

P0715 is a speed shaft ciruit sensor code.

P0743 is a possible blown fuse #13

Cobraguy and Muhl,

Thanks for the replies. I'll check it and see what I come up with...

Wow. You became an Elite member as soon as you joined. Impressive! Money well spent and welcome to the best Explorer resource on the web. I've got a '99 EB as well (with 5.0). Lovin' it.

Thanks,

I'm not one to try and grab a free ride. Besides, I've saved much more than that already!

Envious of your 5.0, BTW...:D

welcome

OK, so an update on my progress. I've checked tranny fluid level and condition (seems good), replaced the alternator (and regulator), sprayed the wiring harness with dialectric, and checked for obviously damaged wires, none found. The P0743 code is gone (not sure what cleared it) but the P0715 remains, along with abrupt shifting, odd gear engagement, lack of downshifting and occasional stalling at complete stops. Any suggestions on my next course of action? Is the input speed sensor bad? How difficult a job to replace? I believe it is internal on my tranny... Any help appreciated!

How do I move this thread to the transmission section? Sorry for posting it here...

I'd just start a new thread. You can't move this from the noob forum because Sam has already said "welcome". :D
