2019 Ford Explorer base .
Want to say hello and thank you for accepting me . I do have a question that has me stumped though. I have a 2019 Ford Explorer Base model. V6 just all standard. My question has to do with the gas mileage and the DTE on the dash . Over the last 4 full tanks of gas all exactly 16.2 gallons, the Vehicle off and the trip cleared. The first tank showed 469 miles to empty , 2nd tank 376 miles to empty, 3rd tank 352 miles to empty and the last tank which was yesterday showed 297 miles to empty. Why is it so scattered. I stopped all 4 times with 8 miles left and put the same amount of gas in . Been planning this for a while because of all the odd numbers that pop up . Vehicle has no codes no check lights , oil is current and tires are new . Any ideas or tips on what to check will be greatly appreciated.

Hey there, not sure if this got bumped or asked in a different section but I'll answer as best I can from my experience. I've only had my Explorer for about two weeks but my 2015 Kia Soul that I've had since new has the same type of read out. I noticed it comes down to how you drive. If your on the highway mainly or around town. I have seen it go from 400 miles down to 350 depending on my driving habits. With my new explorer, I've noticed the same. But I drove it from LA to AR (couldn't find anything around here worth a hoot) so I've had to fill it up a few times. It seems to be the same type of program. Goes off of Highway or City. Please don't take this as the end all be all, its just based off my personal experience with two vehicles. Take a look at your driving habits, were you in town week and then off to another city or state the next? Just some food for thought.

The Ford’s tend to be optimistic about their mileage, and it’s not very accurate. Ford must use a smaller sample of data that can get skewed easier. If you check the MPG data vs doing the math you’ll probably find it’s off as well. There’s a way to correct this if it’s the case.

Welcome to this forum! In an overly congested city where it takes 20 minues to drive one mile in rush hour traffic, I get about 4 to 5 miles per gallon so you can't go by the mpg ratings from the manufacturer.
