Hi Guys,

We just came into an 05 xlt sport with a body in unreasonably good condition despite being in the salt belt. Trans was shot and had to be rebuilt, it needs some other work and it has a number of minor gremlins we are chasing down, but it runs well and is a solid spare vehicle.. Looking forward to hearing from other's experiences with 3rd gen explorers.

V6 gas. 113k miles over 17 years. It had a clean title and regular service records at least for the earlier part of it's life. There was a surprisingly small amount of rust underneath which I have already begun to deal with. The guy that did the trans drives a '10 with more miles and more rust. Rear main seal was fine. All the big things work and the little things are being fixed. Since I had to get the trans done, I figured I would do everything possible to wipe the slate clean so all the fluids are being changed and as many filters as I can reach are either done or are going to be done. The inside had been thoroughly cleaned but is still pretty dirty so that's another project, but mechanically it's sound enough that it seems worth doing.

We got it for my kids to drive when they are home over the summer, but I like it so much they are going to have to drive my old car.

This is an excellent forum for any Explorer or Ranger owner. I am also new by a couple of months and it is my go to source. These are really great people here. Welcome.

Thanks! Always interested in learning new things. I gather you like things that suck and blow. (who doesn't?) But to be honest, I'd be happy just doing things to keep it running well and maybe more efficiently. Gas prices are killing me!

Welcome to this forum!
I appreciate the welcome and seeing you are from Brooklyn, I just want to say that the Belt Parkway is truly horrible and offer the deepest sympathies if you have to drive it frequently.

I haven't been on the Belt Parkway in a while, but just about every street is slow. The BQE was rated one of the top 10 worst highways in the country. I don't know why they still call it the expressway.

Welcome.

I haven't been on the Belt Parkway in years but was on it today. I was surprised that they paved it, and the traffic was moving fast. I don't remember it being like this. Maybe it was done recently.
