- 2007 Explorer XLT
This is my new to me 1992 Explorer XLT 4x4. I bought it mainly as a daily driver but also as a little bit of a toy (dont tell the wife). I dont have any big plans for it lift wise yet. Mainly just to get it in good driving condition and have a little bit of fun on a few farms and ranches around here in Oklahoma. My wife drives a 2007 Explorer XLT and my car is a 2006 Mustang GT.
I started looking for a daily driver when I put the 4.10s in my Mustang. At least that was the excuse to the wife in order to get something so that the Mustang can sit in the garage and be pretty. I looked around and found a few around town in good condition but all around $12-1400. I stumbled on this one just driving around looking at Christmas lights. The owner at the time was the second owner. He bought the car in 1996 with 88k on the odometer. When I bought it, it only had 155k on it. So in 13 years the guy didnt even put on 60k.
It has its little problems, but the engine runs good. I had to replace the radio because the factory didnt work. The trannys OD is burnt out, but I found a donor car I believe. And 1-3 works great. I had to replace the radius arm bushing on the drivers side (Thank you to this site for warning me about the rivets. It didnt make them any easier, but at least I knew what to expect.). The passengers was replaced already. And 2 of the windows are off track or the motor is weak. Theres other things that all seem like wear items (bushings, motor mount, front shocks are wavy, tires). But who can complain when the old man sold it to me $800.
Im going to do some searching, but if anyone can tell me this answer it would be appreciated. I found a transmission that is a fresh rebuilt with only a few thousand on before the x was wrecked. The Explorer it is out of was a 2x2. Will that transmission work in a 4x4? The guy told me he would sell it for $200.
Anyways, here are the pics. Nothing special, just your normal stock Explorer.
And heres one of the wifes car...
And My baby!!!
