Well, I have the valve in my hands- it arrived just now, blimey, superb build quality and tough also- it really is a ball valve inside and the unit is all brass except for the lever. I have an oil change due soon so will fit the valve then. nice!

You should have bought the same one but with a 'N' as the last digit of the part number. The 'N' signifies nipple which would allow you to put a hose on the valve and drain directly into a bottle with no spills what so ever. I had that nipple valve on my '98 and removed it before I sold it. Drained all the oil into 2 Litre soda bottles, took my valve, replaced stock drain plug and refilled oil from soda bottles. Then the nipple valve went to my '06. Also have one on my wife's Honda CR-V. they make for a really clean oil drain.

I thought about getting something like that - but I've switched to using a Pela Oil Extractor (or similar) method for oil changes. No need for scrabbling under the car and messing with oil gushing everywhere.

Being a new Explorer owner (Cologne V6 SOHC) I would be looking to change the oil/filter in this car in this same way - unless there is anything I need to be aware off that would prevent this from happening?
