newb... question

Hello folks,

I'm going to pick up a automatic transmission (supposed to be a 4R55E out of an 95), and was curious if there is a specific serial # indicating that it is indeed a 4R55E or does it say so somewhere on it??? It will be going into a 96 Explorer EB 4x4.

Basically I don't want to go pick up the wrong one..... when I talked to the guy on the phone he was a bit unsure and when asked if it was a 4R55E he said "ummmm..... its out of I think a 95...so..." I asked him if there are any numbers stamped on it and he said he does not see any... does this sound normal or is he blind???

Sorry if this question has been asked a million times already, but I've been using the search function all day on this site with very minimal results...seems there is not much info on the tranny in question.

Thanks for the link..... I'm afraid the transmission I'm hoping to go pick up is no longer in the vehicle so I can't look at the door tag. Again thank you for the response though.
