Hey Guys. This is getting out of hand. Sitting here in Mesa AZ. Asked for cost per hour at Big O Tire for any repair. ( oil change special $25 with tax)
Anyhow repair cost is $ 165 per hour!!!!!!!
Soon we are back to 1900 when only the rich could afford a car. Or we will not drive in cars per person anymore but sit in flying busses
Future looks .. think positive . What is repair per hour in your area?

I have a small fleet of Freightliner trucks and anyplace I go to get work done is $185/hr. I have a trailer with disc brakes and was quoted $6,200 for a brake job. I do a lot more of my own repairs now than I used to in the past cause of the labor rate and also I usually end up redoing the work I paid someone to do.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. It's a rip off to.charge for standard cars, not Porsche or Ferrari bc those guys are trained to the T , but anyone calling themself mechanic and learning by doing at least 120 per hour. I attached a pic from a shop who I asked to.change the tire. The mechanic was an idiot. look at this. I saw that and phoned them to fix it. Only when i.got the car they fixed it. They did not realised that they made a mistake
Those shops should be closed by the government. To many pseudo mechanics charging outrages money. For all who.see that stay away..from shops who.claims to know what they do. You pay for their edu on your car. Pic is Ford Explorer 4 wd front right installed without hub cup and lock nut is not even tight. And when I politely explained they felt like I had a special wish.

The same shops also do exactly what you ask, so if they have to remove a broken part to replace what you want, they will put the broken part back on without saying anything is wrong or additional items are needed. The shop I use, I have to hold the mechanics hand otherwise I'm a repeat customer (3rd time is a charm)

Just came from Europe, long ago went to well know US chain . Asked them to change all 6 spark plugs on 4.0 l explorer Sales told me to use more expensive plugs . Later I found out they never change plug number 3 close to firewall, difficult to reach but not impossible. The old plug was still in, but charged all 6 expensive one. Could not go.back.because was 2 years later. I don't trust auto shops to do honest work. Europe has better control of shops. Anyhow I pay even $200 if i know the guy is fast and knows what he is doing instead of 3 hours looking and doing bad stuff to my car. Enough said.

No idea of the meaning. What I realised since long is when I drive i can hear a whistle sound like from the manifold driver side. But again emissions is great. Could that have to.do with higher gas consumption?

46 is 3.73 non limited slip. Start a thread in the 1st gen subforum and the crew here can give suggestions on things to check. That whistle sound could be from the manifold. Is the power steering pump quiet? They can whine pretty loud when worn out.

Power steering is different sound only more wheezing when turning, I fixed that. The other sound is more like hissing / whistle air. But if manifold leak emissions would not be excellent as it is or am.i wrong?

I just think.by logic car had always axle 46 . gas consumption was 19 per gallon after new injectors and suddenly regulated by I think ECU board computer..What do i ask.in regard to.axle? I may can buy obd1 to.find any code. or phone Ford Service. What is your idea?

Nothing to check with the axle, you said you have stock size tires. What I'm trying to figure out is, when you drive a steady 60 mph on the freeway what rpm does the tach display?

Local shops here: 90-100/hr. Haven't tried any chain ones like Jiffy Lube Walmart or Farm&Fleet,etc. The independent shops have given me good service.

That good only too far for me. Here smallest shops 120 /h And chain as I said 165 /h.
All trying to make money on others.

here shop charge is usually about 100 an hour or thereabouts, but it varies on place and what they do (ie some speed shops charge ar and leg btu they do such a good job) but i think thats quite steep in your case

Thank you. You are in LA and find shops for $ 100. Phoenix AZ cheapest I could find $ 120, papa mama shop. Chain $ 165 Big O Tire. In think that's too expensive.

Everyone has raised their rates. I've had good luck with black canyon automotive but I don't know what his current rate is. It's been a few years.

Why did the raised. Bc of Ukraine. stupid. Just price gauging. When Gas was expensive some years ago nobody raised price. It's just to make more money.

here at least rates were raised with covid not much since ukraine or at least not any real noticeable amount?
