Hello, new guy here. I have a '99 Explorer XLS, 4-door, 4WD. Bought it six years ago with about 35K miles and have about 160K now. It's still running well but things are starting to need replaced as expected. Had the tranny rebuilt this spring when it went out, other than that nothing too major. I have a few fixes that I need to get done, and have been using this forum for advice:
1) Check engine light is coming on, OBDII shows error codes 0171 and 0174. From searching, this means new intake manifold gaskets? I've looked at some of the run-throughs in this forum, but I can't get pictures to come up from the green links. Could someone help me with this?
2) Need to replace shocks. She rides horrible lately.
3) Need to replace ball joints. I need to check for wheel play for sure, but she leans a lot in hard turns. Will probably do this the same time as the shocks.
4) Doors are starting to have trouble opening and closing. Rear hatch has trouble latching completely, rear driver door is difficult to open from the inside, front driver door does not unlock with the key (unless you're me and figured out the special "combination" of turning the key right three times and barely pulling the handle). I'm sure this is wear and tear, and I haven't looked into this yet, but has anyone else had problems with it before?
5) Humming. Especially when it's hot outside and/or at idle. I've heard it's the IAC, and I've cleaned it out, but the problem persists. At least it's winter now and I won't hear it for a few months again.
Any advice anyone could give me would be helpful, especially regarding not being able to view photos.
