Opps, I think I posted in wrong area! Like I said, I am new to this site. Sorry. I will do better next time and try to figure out which area I need to post questions in. There is alot of good info on the here from what I have been reading. Glad I found it.

I have a 96 AWD Explorer. ABS light stays on constantly. I took it to have codes read (before I found this site). Here is what I have documented on paperwork.

PO401 EGR flow insufficient detected
B1933 Passenger Air Bag Resistance High ( I installed aftermarket on/off switch several years ago on the passenger airbag).

ABS - no codes. Yet light stays on all the time. Brakes seem to be working fine.

These 2 codes were documented on the paperwork but I am not sure if they refer to the ABS system.

C1198 L/F isol/inlet valve
C1101 Hydraulic valve circuit fault

My main concern is the ABS since this vehicle is being driven by my 16 year old. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure. I was going to take it to dealership but it was Sunday and I was hoping for a quick fix on the ABS light so I stopped into a Firestone.

welcome

Welcome to Explorer Forum! Does the ABS still work even with the light on?

Not that I can tell. I took it out last night on wet road and tried to engage the ABS but no pulsating of the brake pedal. Cruise works. Fuses good, no sign of damage on any sensor wires. Firestone suggested replacing the ABS module but that this is over a $1000. Thinking it is time to use this vehicle for hunting! :)

I would try to clean the sensors with some brake cleaner first.

Welcome to this forum! What kind of scanner did they use to retrieve the codes? Not all scanners are capable of reading ABS codes.

Umm, if he listed the ABS codes, don't you think that they might have the proper scanner? How else would he know what they are?

Me thinks he has an ABS problem... Looks to be the Hydraulic Control Unit/ABS Control module. THey generally recommend replacing them as a pair since one of them being bad can cause the other to go bad. If it was mine, I would replace them with one from a salvage yard, bleed it as best I could just to limp it to the dealership, then have the dealership perform a complete hydraulic system bleed on the HCU. It requires an NGS or WDS scanner to completely purge the ABS hydraulics of all the air.

That's my .02...
