- 04 Explorer XLT
Hello all, I just wanted to share a couple issues I have with my 04 Explorer XLT.
I had a problem with my passenger window failing to lift/raise the window...I could lower it, but had to pull the lift motor and push the glass up manually then reinstall the motor to keep the glass from sliding back down. So I figured the lift motor was bad, bought a new one and still had the same problem...this was the first thing I did because it was the cheapest fix I could think of. I ended up saying uncle very quickly and took the vehicle to a very good electrical mechanic who does this kind of trouble shooting and fixing. He very quickly found 3 broken wires on the drivers side, inside the rubber boot, in the door jam. He has found this to be an issue with many Explorers...he is pretty sure it is caused at the time the vehicle is assembled. When wiring harnesses are installed at the factory the wires are bundled with tape and the tape can choke the wires at bad places like at a pivot point such as the door jam. Instead of the wires sliding and flexing loosely inside the rubber boot they are choked at the body/frame we all know what happens to a wire hanger when it is bent back and forth several times...it breaks. He removes this tightly wrapped tape and uses wires ties instead just not overly tight...he also lubricates the wires(inside of rubber boot) with some silicone spray this helps the wires slide and keep from becoming the "hanger".
He repaired all three wires and charged me a fair price for 2.5 hours of work($125.00) New lift motor is on its way back to the on-line parts supplier.
The other problem I have is an ABS light that comes on and off randomly and when the ABS light is on the 4x4 high will flash 8 times exactly and that will happen every 2-3 mins. When I stop the vehicle I turn the off the engine, pump the breaks til they stiffen up...restart the engine and the light will go off after I drive off with in 10-15 feet...very wierd...had the codes pulled and I am getting c1155 LF speed sensor input, c1233 LF signal missing.
I think this may be an early warning that my wheel bearing left front(drivers side) may be going bad. I am noticing a sound coming from the front of the vehicle, radio has to be off and windows up, fan for heat/air off and I notice it when I am up to about 35-40 MPH and up and then down to 0.
sorry for the long post, thanks for reading.
