If I unplug the IAC power connector(not the whole IAC), then start the engine, should the engine die immediately or the engine will just run very rough? Can I use this technique to test the IAC?

If only life was that simple!

I assume you have some "idle related problem"
Cleaning the IAC with air\intake cleaner is always a good starting point.

Check out a Haynes manuals (or others) there is a procedure to back probe it with an DVOM and a static test reading for an internal short.

If you disconnect the IAC harness, the truck will idle rough, throw a CEL, and eventually die. It just can't run well without the IAC.

I have a question about the IAC.
When you remove it to clean or replace is there a gasket there that needs to be replaced when reinstalling? I was planning on cleaning mine this weekend but wasn't sure if I needed to go purchase a gasket beforehand or not.

Thanks
Dale

If you a real careful you should not need to replace that gasket,if you do rip it just cut another one out of a twelve pack box:cool:
