- 2015 Ex Limited 4WD
Hi all,
Just signed up here because I am going to order a 2016 Explorer very soon!
I currently drive a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT RS 45th Anniversary edition, which has been wonderful the past 3 years; however, it is time to move on. I've always wanted a SUV (as my first car was a Equinox), and the Ford Explorer caught my eye.
My Camaro has fared quite well during the past 3 winters with snow tires, but I really would like a car with 4WD. Not to mention, I do drive a lot and having a car that can comfortable fit 3+ tall people would be amazing.
I did post a thread in the 2016 Ordering section, but what are your opinions on the new 2.3L ecoboost 4WD and V6 4WD?
I know there have been complaints about the current year's 2.0 FWD MPGs falling short of the 20/28. I wonder if the 2.3L will achieve the EPA? The engine in the Lincoln MKC AWD gets 18/26, so I am expecting something close (theoretically).
Is a turbo/ecoboost engine even worth it in the Explorer? I've read that most of Ford ecoboost engines fall short of the EPA. I find this quite unsettling because we had a '12 Kia Sportage SX AWD 2.0L turbo at 260/266 with an EPA of 19/24, and the car actually averaged 29-33 on the highway most of the time even with all that power (albeit being 3500lbs).
I'm only considering a i4 because of commuting to and from school. If the real world MPG of the i4 is too close to the 6, then I might get the 6 and save some money off the car's build as the 2.3L AWD is the most expensive option.
Anyway, I am excited to join the Explorer family soon!
Thanks and take care,
Gabe
