HI ALL AGAIN.
SORRY FOR POSTING SO MANY QUESTIONS LONG STORY SHORT I HAVE A SEVER CERVICAL SPINE INJURY AND HAVE BEEN OUT OF COMMISSION SINCE MY 1ST OPERATION ON JAN 5 2009 HAD 2ND ON MARCH 11 2010 AND 3RD WILL BE ON APRIL 12 SO BETWEEN THE MEDICATIONS AND THE SEVERE PAIN I APOLOGIZE FOR ASKING A LOT OF QUESTIONS BUT I TRULY APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP.

I WAS FINALLY CLEARED TO DRIVE AGAIN AND WAS LUCKY TO GET MY 2001 SPORT TRAC BUT SINCE IT IS STILL VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO LOOK UP THE INFORMATION BOOK’S GOOGLE ETC THIS SEEM LIKE THE PLACE TO GET THE HELP I NEED.

ON MY ST WHEN I PUT IT INTO DRIVE ALL DOORS CLOSE BUT WHEN I PUT IT IN TO PARK THEY DO NOT OPEN IS THIS THE WAY FORD DESIGNED IT TO WORK OR CAN I PROGRAM IT TO OPEN AND IT DOES HAVE THE FORD ALARM SYSTEM PUSH BUTTON & PANIC BUTTON REMOTE KEY LESS FEATURE.

ALSO IT DOES NOT HAVE FOG LIGHTS CAN I HAVE FORD ORIGINAL FOG LIGHTS INSTALLED IF THE HOLES ARE CUT OUT? AND LAST 2 QUESTIONS IS THE CENTER CONSOLE THE SAME DIMENSIONS’ AS A STANDARD EXPLORER IF SO COULD IT BE CHANGED WITH OUT A MAJOR MODIFICATIONS I WOULD LIKE ONE THAT IS CLOSED ON THE SIDES AND THE LAST QUESTION THE LOCK’S FOR THE CAP COVER I AM MISSING ONE DO I NEED TO GET IT FROM FORD ? AND MOD’S I APOLOGIZE TO YOU ALSO. THANK YOU

I wish you well in the success of your surgeries. I know that must be a really painful and restrictive condition.

The door locks can be programmed NOT to lock themselves but they can't be programmed to unlock.

You can use OEM fog lights and cut the holes out in your bumper cover, I did. It's easier to just wire up your own relay/switch though. As a benefit to that you can run the fogs when YOU want to, not when the OEM switch will let you.

The Trac and Explorer Sport have two consoles available, the high series and the low series. They are interchangeable with the corresponding hardware. The regular Explorer consoles can be used also, up through the 2001 year model.
Here's a conversion "project". http://www.mysporttrac.com/mysporttrac/projects/console/console_conversion.html

The OEM tonneau cover locks will have to come from Ford.

One of the purposes of this forum is to ask and answer questions. No need to apologize. Glad to hear your finally able to drive.

Thank you guy's 911 did me in i rather not go into more then that but thank all for understanding it means a lot to my family and i and thanks for the info.

Bxtf never forget 911

NCRANCHERO & Clusterpup FIRST I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU MY QUICK REPLY WAS COLD AND I DID NOT MEAN TO COME ACROSS THAT WAY I JUST HAD 4 HRS SLEEP AND NO MEDS IN ME YET, AND I TOOK IT OUT ON YOU GUY’S AND I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE TO BOTH OF YOU.

NCRANCHERO THANK YOU FOR THE LINK ON THE CONVERSION FOR THE CONSOLE I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A CONSOLE LIKE THAT FOR TWO REASONS ONE I CAN REST MY ARM ON IT AND I WOULD NOT BE PUTTING A STRAIN ON MY CERVICAL SPINE AND I WOULD HAVE MORE ROOM FOR STORAGE BUT I DO NOT THINK I NEED THE A/C CONTROL FOR THE REAR MAYBE SOME CUP HOLDERS FOR MY KID’S IF THEY HAVE THOSE AVAILABLE.

AND THE INFO ON THE FOG LIGHTS NOW SINCE I HAVE VERY LIMITED USE OF BOTH MY ARMS I KNOW THAT I CAN’T DO EITHER PROJECT WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT THE PRICE’S OF THE CONSOLE AND FOG LIGHT’S WOULD COST & ANY IDEA WHAT THE COST OF THE INSTALLATION WOULD BE ALSO ANY SUGGESTION’S WHERE I CAN GET A CONSOLE I NEED THE TAN COLOR ALSO SAME ABOUT WERE TO PURCHASE THE FOG LIGHT’S I AM OUT ON SS DISABILITY AND CAN NOT AFFORD A LOT I HAVE A FAMILY OF 4 THAT I HAVE TO TAKE CARE OFF AND SS AND MY DISABILITY PENSION ARE MY ONLY MEANS OF INCOME SO WHEN ALL THE MAJOR BILLS ARE PAID NOT TO MUCH SURPLUS LEFT HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF PRIORITY ONE MY FAMILY.

AND WHAT KIND OF SHOP SHOULD I LOOK FOR TO DO THE WORK BODY SHOP? I KNOW THAT THE FORD DEALER WOULD BE VERY EXPENSIVE I LIVE IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY NY SO IF YOU OR CLUSTERPUP KNOW OF ANY PLACE TO PURCHASE THESE ITEM’S IT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL AND ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT SHOP I SHOULD GET THE WORK DONE AT WOULD ALSO BE A BIG HELP.

CLUSTERPUP I KNOW THAT THE PURPOSE OF THE FORUMS IS TO ASK QUESTIONS AND I DO NOT MEAN THIS IN A NEGATIVE WAY TOWARDS YOU BUT IT IS THE WAY I ASKED THE QUESTION’S THAT I WANTED TO CLARIFY AND I THANK YOU ALSO I HOPE BOTH OF YOU UNDERSTAND THAT I DID NOT MEAN TO COME OFF AS SOME KIND OF W@@@ A@@ OR SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT APPRECIATE HELP BECAUSE I DO THANK YOU BOTH.

Nothing wrong with your response as far as I'm concerned. The pain you must have to endure is surely torture. Even being IN NYC on 9-11 would have been a nightmare and if you were close enough to have been injured because of the events, total horror! I was just stunned as I stood in my office and watched it unfold. I'll stop at that.
Fog Lights:
The fog lights are really very easy. A hole saw, 3.5" if I remember right, is needed to cut out the holes. A lot of people just tap into their parking lights to activate the relay for them, thus avoiding part of the wiring. In this case the fogs come on with the parking & headlights. Here's a simple schematic for that option:
Imagefoginstall2.jpg

Then you just get the lights (eBay or salvage yard) and fasteners and you're done.

Console:
Do you have the bag style console?
ExplorerBroncoIIarmrest.jpg

My arm rest was broken and I am using one from an older Explorer. It's a bit shorter and slightly off color but it's much sturdier than the original. I too dislike the bag console and am planning on getting an older model console to replace it with. The "high" series consoles are nice but the short ones allow more room to mount some extra goodies. The high series consoles don't all have the controls in the back but they're scarce in any configuration. They do have slide out cup holders though. I'm going console hunting, maybe tomorrow and hope to find a replacement for mine. I'll see what's around for you if you like.
I don't know where to suggest having any of this work done as labor rates everywhere are out of my range!! There are several guys on the http://www.mysporttrac.com/mysporttrac/ site that live in/around NY that may be able to assist you in that area. I'm a member there too, come join. I'm on 4 Sport Trac sites, have to spread my wonderful self around you know Ha ha ha! (John Rock, you keep your comments to yourself!!! )

NCRANCHERO I WAS A FIRST RESPONDER DURING 911 I PREFER NOT TO SAY ANYTHING MORE BEYOND THAT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU BUT MORE MY SON’S SO IT IS NO LONGER DISCUSSED AT HOME ONLY ON THE ANNIVERSARY WHEN WE GO DOWN HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND. THANKS’ FOR THE INFO AND WIRING DIAGRAM FOR THE FOG LIGHT’S.

AND YES I HAVE THE BAG STYLE CONSOLE WHAT I WILL DO IS PRINT THIS AND AFTER MY NEXT OPERATION IN APRIL DEPENDING HOW IT GOES I WILL MAKE A BUNCH OF CALL’S AND SEE IF I CAN FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN DO THE INSTALLATION BUT I WILL LIKE TO HAVE A SEPARATE SWITCH FOR THEM.

THANKS FOR THE HELP AND UNDERSTANDING GOD BLESS.

Are you set on wanting the full length console that attaches to the dash? Depending on what I find tomorrow I'll send you a photo or two. If I find some busted up fog lights I'll get the mounting bolts and clips as they are hard to come by. If you want to add a separate switch use this diagram unless you want to try and duplicate the OEM installation. That wouldn't be easy but I can send you a factory schematic for that if you like. Just PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you the file.

I retired from large local government as a Parts Manager in the Vehicle Maintenance Division which was also the Mechanical Division for our fire department. Just so you'll know there are still many of us who will never forget, this I wear one day a year every year, in remembrance of the hero's of that day, like you. All gave some, some gave all...... we never forget!:salute:

Ncranchero.
I am not sure which one would be the best console as long as it is enclosed on the sides so i will let you make that decision for me to tell you the truth i do not know which would be better as far as the lights i thought it would be a better idea to have a dedicated switch but now it think what you suggested one the first post have them come on when i turn on the lights this would be fine.

And that is a great shirt to bad many people have forgotten that day and my first name is ray and i am very happy to meet you thank you again and don’t go crazy looking for the items i need as i said i will be going in for surgery on 4-12-10 and i do not know if i have the extra money right now to purchase the parts i need to know the cost first then this way my wife and i can see if e have the extra funds.
