This is probably going to be a long first post.........you have been warned! :D

So I am Dave and I have just bought a '99 Explorer! The main reason for buying it was to tow my toy, and my father in law needed something to move his boat around. I used to use this

but as it was a bit quick and I had sunk way too much money in it it had to go!

So last Monday it went and I was in the market for something new and the Explorer seemed to fit the bill!

It will probably see quite a lot of tow use as this is my toy

and it will probably be used to pull this around at some point as well

which me and a few mates built last year for an event organised through the Mitsubishi Lancer Register.

Now I am car mad and I will have it all on to keep the Explorer standard so please dont anyone give me any ideas!

To satisfy my need a couple of months ago I hired this

but it wasn't as quick as my Mitsubishi so it had to go ;)

You now know everything you need to about a new madman in the ranks and when I pick the car up on Monday I will post some more relevant pictures! In the meantime any tips on ownership would be appreciated! I am already aware I need deep pockets for the fuel!!

Welcome.

You may not need as deep pockets as you think. I average 18.9mpg which is a lot better than the range rover I had before. :D

Ay up fella! welcome... fit some nos and a supercharger and you'll not miss yr mitsi...

glad to see another car nutter joining the ranks

Suggestions like that are going to get me in a whole heap of trouble! ;)

By the way, the Capri in the pics above is furnished with a 7.2 litre V8

Thanks for the welcome guys, I cant wait to pick it up!

Welcome to the board :salute:

I should be safe, I am more in to zing than bling

Still no pics as I dont have the car yet........problems getting the tow bar fitted in reasonable time!

Need it this weekend though as I have to go to Glasgow and back and then Blackpool and back early next week.......that should make me about £250 poorer at 20mpg!!

Been there, done that - then some f**ker stole it!!!

:notworthy

It is now sitting on my drive waiting for me to return from work  If the rain holds off pics will follow tonight (although I think you all know what they look like!)

Thinking of resurrecting my media PC and installing it.......I am sure the 7" touchscreen will fit nicely in the double din dash

In the meantime I have to figure out how to hang a DVD player on the front seat so my 2 year old son doesn't get bored on the way to Scotland tomorrow!

all sounds a bit bling to me :D ;) :p:

:yawn

800+ miles, 22mpg, bargain!

The drivers seat is not great and would really benefit from a headrest, but it is bearable. The ride is a little bouncy but that could have something to do with the self levelling not working  (further investigation required).

However, it did the job i was intended for admirably and even my 2 year old didn't get too stressed by the 15hours he has spent in it in the last 3 days (the wife is another story!)

Long live the Explorer!

What, no headrest? My '94 has 1 ...........part of the "bumpy" ride is the fact it's a 4x4, not a sports car, ya' think??.....self leveling, hummpphh  .......mine doesn't have such a luxury, too car-like for my approval anyway.........Welcome to the forum, good to have another Car Nut aboard:cool:
