I have recently gotten a 95 (215k miles) in darn near perfect shape and everything works on it for a buck. It is in great shape. I have been doing a lot of reading on the site for problems and issues for these trucks and most of them come right down to a few things in general. A couple of which apply to my Explorer.

If I could get some help with best avenues to approach a couple of things that would be great!
1)- recall/Tsb database for this vehicle- Any ideas?
2)- rattle in engine area but it seems to be very limited in low RPM's and at low speeds. I understand that there is chain/guides issues but they all (comments) seem to be related to showing signs/rattle at 2300-3000 RPM and with a steady sound/rattle the entire time. My noise is for 5-10 seconds and disappears for a couple of minutes then back again. It does not seems to be heard at cruising speeds etc. It is very limited in general. Could it be something else?
3)- idler pulley issues- possible rattle location- How to check?
4)-oil type- Everybody has the preference but what would be best?
5)-suggestions or ideas on how to improve economy?
6)- any other things to watch out for?

Thanks for the help! I really like this truck as we just were in a pretty bad auto accident and we needed a back-up vehicle for emergencies. It was sold to me by a friend who took really good care of it.

has to be something else, this is the OHV engine not the SOHC, probably a lifter or rocker arm, much easier to fix, in fact mine has been making that same noise for about 100,000 miles so far,
