Hello avid explorer fans,
I have never owned an explorer, but I have had more vehicles than most.
I've pared down my vehicle ownership to five, two CVO fatboys,a 2009 Genesis V6, and "Bluto" my 1989 F250 std cab 4X4 with an auto and a FI 460.
Oh yeah, a 1988 Cajaun Espirit with a 185 Merc.

My sister just passed away and I had fully intented to to buy her 2006 2WD EB V8 X with 57+K miles from the estate. It is a creampuff. she babied the heck out of this vehicle and it would be a fitting way to remember her by saving it from the grasps of reletaives that would have this beautiful example in the junkyard in short order.
I was looking at it this weekend and discovered the electrically operated 3rd row seats(nice touch).
I went to recline them and one of them just locked up,motor hums but the screw drive won't actuate.
Could be a dead spot in the motor, mechanism binding? Didn't have time to investigate fully.
When I drove it, the tranny had a clunk/lurch when it was doing it's downshift
after coming to a full stop.
I took it to the dealer and he never was able to get to it so I retrieved it.
I discovered the "sealed transmission when I tried to check the fluid level.
I then went to a number of web sites to get some info on checking and filling the tranny.
Found that info, but I aso found an alarming number of comments about the unreliability of the breakdown rate of the radiators and trannys on the 2006 X.
I am an old hand at keeping old vehicles on the road and doing major repairs,
but if the transmissions are indeed as poorly designed as reported, I am getting a little leary, emotonal attachment or not.
After having 2 CJ5s with AMC V8s and a '95 V8 Grand Cherokee I've seen problematic vehicles.
I am a 40 year design engineer by trade and I can really appreciate good design practice.
Can anybody give me their opinion on the sensbility of entering into this relationship?
People tell me that normal people don't name their vehicles........Hmmmm.
What do they know?
Any input woud be greatly appreciated.::exp:;)
