Okay I am thinking I may have a bad ECM so I want to do a test by changing my O2s out for some other ones to see if I get the same codes or if the change over a small bit of time but I do not want to go out and buy new ones as mine are less then a year and half old and under 10,000 miles easy and more likely only about 5,000 on them.

I get codes 172 and 136 and have gotten these on and off for over 4 to 5 years at lest now. I have changed fixed or tested about every thing that would make both banks lean with no luck so far. I do know some time back like about 2003 late spring I had the tranny rebuilt (bad and long story) any way they pinched one of the O2 sensor wires then and I am believing it may have shorted my computers O2 circuit so that this problem is erratic in how and when it happens. so I want to rule out bad O2’s for now as I pin point this out

if any one knows of a newer auto that uses the same O2s please let me know. I say newest as it’s a better chance I would get some good ones when I pull them that way from a low mile wreck.
Thanks for the help
Marty

any 4 wire o2 sensor will work. the threads are all the same and they are all the same internally.

as long as the plug fits you're good.. or just splice the wires with butt connectors then it doesn't even matter if the donor vehicle had the same plug or not.

also what i do is look up a replacement part for my vehicle on autozone.. get the part number.. then look up that part for another (in your case newer) vehicle, and see if its the same part number.. its a quick way to compatibility check different vehicles for matching parts.

Looking thru the discountautoparts.com online catalog it looks like the oxygen sensor is probably the same from '91 thru at least 2010 for the Explorer and the few engines it came with. It is interesting there are variations in the lists of applicable sensors, but for every one a universal Bosch sensor 15729 is listed which has parts to make it work with various connectors. I suspect the differences in the lists are because of variances in the connectors/cables, not the actual sensor.

Thanks both of you as that is what I seam to find also.

I did find that they list the same O2's for the Explorer up to 2012. The Taurus and Grand Cherokee the same. That makes it easy s Just pull two pre cat ones and then if need be even find a 93 X and cut the harness connector off and use it!

Gives me an Idea also to may be make a test jumper wire set up for testing with out having to deal with the back probing or pulling them to bench test as one could do it all on the auto by simply inserting the connecter wire . Maybe making a trip to the pull a part and getting a few things if for nothing other then to make a test jumper. They want about $20 for a used O@ and well you can get some new cheap one off evil bay for that with free ship!

The local parts yard here has a few 93's in now so maybe I can score an ECM too! Who knows? Mine is one that seams to be one there is not a ton of out there as is always the case for me. O well gives me something to do to kill some time (like I do not have enough already LOL_
