So, I got this great sounding CLUNK as I hit a bump coming from the drivers side front of the Ex and figured while I was in there checking it out, I might as well just start replacing things like ball joints and radius arm bushings. I mean the Ex does have 172k kilometers (107k miles) miles on her.
Then common sense (the wife) took over so before I do this, is there any way to check what could be worn out before I spend a whack of cash on stuff I don't need to replace? I've checked for stuff like worn out ball joints before, but never on a 4x4.

Check the radius arm bushings as that is just what they will do when worn.
when your under the truck you can also grab the tie rod and check the ends and there grease boots move them up and down side to side and see if you get a lot of play or any sounds . You can jack it up and check the ball joints also. Check it out then list what is wrong and priorities them in order of needing fixed and then talk to her. if you can get her out there with you and have her help you, she may not understand it all but at lest its time together and she can learn and seeing some times is better then being told . Yes I am married and she holds the purse strings. dose it show? LOL.
