no 2nd gear in a4ld

i just bought an 93 explorer sport with the a4ld. 2nd gear is gone, it goes from first to third and the fluid was dirty. do i need to find a new tranny or is there a way to fix it

Welcome to this forum! Check the adjustment of the intermediate band. The band could be broken if it can't be adjusted to 10 Ft./Lbs. (120 In./Lbs.) with a torque wrench.
