No 4x4 (Check What First?)

I've got a 1st gen that has the push button 4x4. Where should I look first to track down a problem? Push the button nothin' happens, tried "R-N-D" no help. I've tried rolling anywhere from 2-10 mph while holding or repetedly pushing the button, NADDA! I figure somebody out there has run into this along the line. Relays? Fusible Links? Where Should I Start?

Have you checked the motor on the t-case to see if has power. I've just learned today. If the motor on the t-case (that engages the 4wd) is not working correctly the 4wd will not engage
