no 4x4

i have a stock 1993 explorer with 30 inch mud tires. me and some firends were going through a mud pit when i got stuck so i tried to back up when i herd a snap or breaking sound and when tryed to rock out i noticed that the front 4x4 doenst work. Can you please tell me what may be wrong before i start tearing it apart??

does it have auto hubs or manual hubs? If it has the auto hubs they might have broke and that would explain the breaking sound and it would also explain why the 4x4 doesnt work.

The stopping force of mud and the torque of the 4.0 V6 is stronger than stock ford auto hubs that are 11 years old.

Someone needs new hubs
