My A/C is inoperable. I don't hear anything clicking or turning on under the hood when I hit the A/C button. I am thus assuming that the compressor is bad. I would like to get this replaced before the Kansas heat returns!

I know you need a license to evacuate. How hard is it though to install a new compressor? Or could it be something else. I am a noob when it comes to this type of work.

Thanks in advance,

Jeremy

ps: This Exploder has been converted to R134a

The most common problem is simply needing a refrigerant recharge. There is a safety feature that prevents the compressor from turning on when it's low, so it won't burn out. R134A cans are available at the local auto parts store.

Is it difficult to recharge yourself?

So it is definitely NOT the compressor? How do you tell when it IS the compressor?

Is it possible to over charge the system if it does have pressure?

Thanks

We don't know if it is or isn't the compressor yet, it's inconclusive.
Yes, it IS possible to overcharge.

Do you have a pressure gauge? What's going on in there?

Many times the problem can be just a faulty pressure switch, but without knowing the pressure, it's hard to say. The fact that you aren't hearing any sound at all, and nothings turning, isn't necessarily a compressor problem.
