No AC on rear unit help

I have a 04 ford explorer 4.0 and purchased it about 1 year ago and still have no ac in the rear of this thing, I changed expansion valve in rear and even change main hose from compressor to dryer which is huge then recharge to specs and still nothing all hot air, I felt the big tube coming out where it t's and big one is cold but not little one to the rear so really is weird because they are both from the same main hose then splits and the smaller one is not cold, felt the hoses in back running full blast and they are warm, what could it be?
The front is ice cold at 39 degrees the rear shows 87 degrees

Do you have the dual zone climate control? If so it is most likely the rear blend door it not working therefore not allowing the cold air into the vents.

What about the pipe going to rear it should be cold like the front I assume and is dual climate

I have dual AC and am unsure why one would go and start changing out piping unless there was evidence of a leak. Since your front system is working, your system should have a charge, therefore, changing out piping is an exercise in futility.

Besides, it is often better to start with the easy stuff, particularly when some items are known failure components.

The blend door actuator is always the first place to look on the Explorers, as they are known high failure items, are cheap, and are and easy to replace.

If I recall correctly the rear unit also has a blend door. Remove the rear panel (left) and see if it's working. Like many including myself have reported a clicking sound in the left rear. In my case it was the rear blend door and it was replaced under extended warranty.

The original hose when I first purchased the bely got shreaded and slapped the ac line and sounded like the thing exploded with smoke all over, it was pretty scary but what happed was I guess someone worked on it and did not push the dampner all the way back and belts just did not stay on long until we figured it out but I would never ever want to replace that big hose again, it was a pain to remove and to put new one in.
I am picking up the 2 blend doors, we took apart and see there is 2 of them so we will pick up both for rear and try that but how does the blend doors make freon pipe cold because it is hot, both of them

flasher have you fixed it? MY wife and I just purchased an 05 with no refrigeration to the air in the rear unit. MY temp blend door actuator is not the culprit.

Hi no help on this yet, I have had replaced everything but the control dials and front expansion valve and drier which looks like a bear to have removed but we are completely lost and have done everything we can without a person who knows more, I hope someone can help. How do you like your explorer? I sold my 2003 dodge ram 2500 diesel 4x4 truck and paid cash for my 04 eddie baur and love it much better.

Sorry for drudging up an old post, I am new here and have a 2002 Eddie Bauer with this same problem, I have checked blend door, replaced the rear expansion valve, flushed lines, vacuumed and recharged system using 56 oz of Freon and still cannot get the rear cold enough. The input line for the evaporator coil is cold, but it does not seem to be flowing enough to actually cool the air.

Could the front expansion valve be stuck open and using more Freon than it should leaving nothing for the rear?

Front AC output is 46deg F using outside air in 90 deg F weather, rear AC line gets cold but not cold enough and blend door works. Pressure readings are: low side 45 and High side 250.

Any ideas?

Is there a rear orifice that I didn't see? If so it could be clogged maybe?
Is there an expansion valve in the front? That could be allowing too much Freon through the front?
Any experience with the tubes being clogged or needing replacement when not leaking?

First check to see if the blend door is working. I would try a functional test with no AC running. Simply heat to roof or floor, cycle the temperature control and see if the air temperature follows that. If so, rule out the temperature blend door.

Next, hand trace the refrigerant lines to the rear unit. On my 04, they originate passenger side above fender well in engine compartment. They follow the fender well down, tuck up near the frame rail and running board brackets. They then hop up and over the spare tire. Make sure no highway rock, ice chunk, or board at sometime in the past put a crush on the line. This could have created a restriction in refrigerant to or from the rear evaporator.

the 2 lines going to your rear evaporator should be warm and cold. If they are both warm then refrigerant is not flowing to the evaporator. Either a clogged expansion valve/hose or evaporator.

A clicking sound will always be heard if the blend door is broken.

I am having this issue where it is blowing warm air and I have not looked into it yet myself, but that is tomorrows project. I was told by Meineke that it was the rear expansion valve. After reading these comments I am not so sure. I will definitely check the rear blend door, but I wanted to mention, that before, each time we would turn on the rear ac, that there would be a noise like something pressurizing in the rear, now no noise is made at all. I don't hear a clicking noise but could this still be related to the blend door malfunctioning?
