I took delivery of my new Limited on Thursday. I have keyless access, and most of the key options including the Technology Package (in Canada this includes active park assist, BLIS, rain sensing wipers, adaptive cruise control) and the luxury seating package, etc.

It strikes me as odd that my Explorer doesn't show any signs it has an alarm (aka red blinking light). This is probably the first car I've ever bought which doesn't have this when I otherwise have almost all the other bells & whistles.

Am I missing something? Certainly thieves won't read the manual to look for a red blinking light, so if I can't see it easily (if it's even there), what's the point?

Hi Steve. I've had mine for 2 months now and didn't really notice the absence of an flashing indicator. You are correct though, there isn't one. I just went out to check mine. I don't think it is a big deal though. If someone wants the vehicle bad enough they will find a way to take it, flashing light or no flashing light. There was an article a while back where, I believe, 6 Toyota Highlander Limiteds were stolen in the Scarborough area the same night and all these vehicles had the engine immobilizer and flashing red light.
I wouldn't worry about it. BTW, welcome to the Forum. :wavey:

Yeah, I'm not really that stressed about it: I figure that any deterrent to encourage the thieves to move onto the next car is welcome. Personally, I use the red lights as a quick visual check to make sure all is secure when I'm turning in at night, etc.

That said, don't you think it's a bit ironic that a car in which you can pick any of 7 colors for the cupholder lights is missing a little blinking alarm LED?

My guess is MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. Every little thing adds cost, although small, it adds up. Just look at day time running lights.
No in US
Yes in Canada (Mandated)
Ford decided that it was cheaper to add/delete on assembly line than add to all vehicles.

How many cars today don't have a factory alarm? Very, very few. I'm sure any thief knows your Ex has an alarm.
