Alrighty, so my cruise has never worked since I've had the truck and I took off the horn button on the steering wheel to check the wires and everything is good. I also replaced the vacuum servo with a known good condition one I had lying around, and I still have nothing. I've checked all the fuses and everything seems great. There must be something I'm missing here?

Hey I know im probably not helping but
on my 94 xlt i thought it was broken and went through alot to try to fix it going a far to replace fuses and such but just figured it was old and was something not really worth putting time into but a couple weeks ago i was driving down the road and was (don't ask me why) pushing the buttons randomly and suddenly the cruise control kicked in, kinda scared me lol. it turned out that there are no lights and nothing to tell you it is activated you just have to press the buttons in the right order.
like i said not helping
but funny story ;)

I know you have to press on and then set/accel. I'm going on a 1400 mile road trip in a couple of weeks and would really like to have it.

I try the buttons everyday and I press them HARD lol.

Also I've never had a car with a cruise control light on the dash. I'm not sure why people would really need that.

There is a module that controls the system. I'm pretty sure it is located behind the glove box, it may be bad.

I pulled the module out of the glovebox and popped it out of the case. All of the connectors are clean and none of the traces on the board seems to be burnt or corroded. Are they any other modules for the cruise on this thing? Crash sensors or anything to check out? Switches under the steering column? I'm running out of ideas.

Turns out it was the plastic peice that pushes on the dump valve button by the pedal. Now I have it on there part way so its tilted to push up on the button. I can't make it slide up any further to press on it let it normally should.

okay I leave to drive 1400 miles in 2 nights and the cruise is dead again. The dump valve is in good shape. The servo was working yesterday, I took apart the buttons and everything seemed clean inside of them. The module is still just fine. I dont see any broken wires or anything. What now?

Have you thoroughly checked all the vacuum hoses to the cruise control system? I know on mine the cruise died because one of those vacuum hoses came off.

Yes, The hoses all look pretty new, and I didn't find any cracks in them.

What is the likelihood that a wire went bad in my steering column?

A broken wire is certainly a possibility. I don't have any real experience with electrical diagnosis of the cruise system. I recall having some weird cruise behavior on my BII because of a bad signal/hazard/multifunction switch because the cruise wiring went through the hazard lights, but I don't believe the same thing applies to the Explorers.

You seem convinced that the vacuum to the cruise is ok, and that the main cruise control module is ok. Outside of those two items, there are the switches, the Brake switch, the VSS, maybe a couple of other sensors, and the wires connecting them all.

Can you get a wiring diagram for the cruise system (maybe from the library)?

I have access to Mitchel on demand 5.

Vss seems to be okay. BOO works. Is there any impact sensor that could be tripped. I dont see any mentio of that anywhere.

On my '92, there are no impact sensors (except for the inertia switch that only affects the fuel pump circuit). I don't know if your '93 has any additional impact sensors or not. I have never heard of them being mentioned.
