On deck or whatever(audio-moron here) there is no display. So I can't see like the time or station i'm at. So I anyone can tell me what is wrong with it I would be very grateful. Thanks. MG

Edit: If anyone knows..How good is the audio system in 98 XLT?

Join the club my friend, a large number of these HUs have displays that have failed.

Its not worth the cost of repair.

Consider an aftermarket HU or just use it w/o a display; I have for quite some time.

Good luck......

Welcome to the site!

For information on a POSSIBLE fix to this use the search feature and search for display. I encourage you to use the search function on this site before posting questions because there are many many threads on here.

MINE TOO

I have a 98 with the premium sound system.... Not so premium when i cant even see what im listening too. Sometimes i can see the writing, but most of the time its just black.. No time, no station, no NOTHING. I am gonna see if there is a recall or somethin on it... LAATE

No recall at all
But with the huge numbers of people on this board that have this problem there must be something we can do. Does any one have an intelligent idea as to how we can get Visteon or Ford to repair or replace our HUs for free? Who would this be an issue with anyway Ford or Visteon?

If I see ONE more post about this without people searching....

Some people do not know how to search or even what it is. They want/need help and ask for it here. Give em a break and offer help....

I've helped out many on this board. How could you NOT know how to search. Its an internet BASIC.

Hey these people are new lets give em a brake. Sometimes people become members and ask one question. They don't think to search. Now they know to search before asking.

Youre not dumb, and my intention was not to be exceptionally hard on new users, heck, I was a new user here once too...

I understand I get frustrated with seeing this same thing come up over and over and over again. But I just try to be as polite as I can when telling them to search first but I do try to answe r their question somewhat.

Further, in my opinion, the search is not the easiest thing to use. I have tried many times to find something there and sure it was there but not with the search criterion I chose, I am thankful the while being admonished for my ignorance, the great folks here, always come through with help.

same thing happened to me! i went to those ford people..he said it would cost $400 bucks to repair!! he told me it would be a whole lot better to just replace it. so i recommend getting a new head unit. I like mine a lot

Sideswipe...

Yo Swideswipe..
No need 2 be a biotch about this big guy... some people like to post rather than search, it more personal so just help em/us out instead ya know. Thanx man

You also have to realize that each post takes up some of Rick's valuable bandwidth. With many posts saying the exact same thing all it is is a big waste of bandwidth. Also answering the same thing over and over and over again gets really aggravating sometimes.

True

Yeah this is true... but if you think about it, almost everything there is to know about an explorer has been posted on this board. So pretty much everyone could stop posting and just search for the stuff.. then the message board would die.
